I could have told you that in 1979. What was a silly fun buzz in the 60's and earlier 70's had been made into a real drug, far more potent and psychoactive.
Before this meddling started it was just enjoyable. After bout 1977 it often caused paranoia and self-loathing, like everything you thought and said was stupid and what the hell was the matter with you. Your life was all fucked up. It was decidedly NOT fun.
One time I drove ten miles the wrong way on LA surface streets because I couldn't get it together to turn the car around.
That was the last dance with Mary Jane for me. I could function far better than that on much harder drugs. It is not difficult to imagine what that could do to kids who start smoking it now at an early age.
Some folks do just fine with it. But I can't help thinking there are a number of casualties out there.

I'm sure there are, especially since what you're actually eating or smoking can vary so much. But this isn't really an argument for criminalization.
A friend of mine has pretty serious social anxiety. Weed helps him keep down his job at a bank. (He's gotten promoted a couple of times so I suppose it's working.)
Another former co-worker has epilepsy. Weed keeps her from having episodes. She's said the episodes have led to job issues in the past, so she's better off now that her Rx is legal.
My folks are pretty much potheads at this point. They say it helps their quite frankly myriad health issues. On the whole, it does seem to help things.

Then regulate it as any other drug.
