"To look at black Americans, minority Americans, and say, you’re not carrying your own weight. You’re gonna go have a fit and a tantrum and demonstrate, [but] are you teaching your child to read? Are you making sure that the school down the street actually educates your child? Are you becoming educated and following a dream in life and making things happen for yourself? Or are you saying, I’m a victim, and I’m owed, and the entitlement is inadequate? I need more, and after all, you whites, you know racism has been here for four centuries with slavery and so forth, so it’s time for you to give to me."

Whether he is right or wrong, I would love to have his book(s) as part of the required reading at the high school level, with opposing books also required, in order to teach that "critical thinking" so often touted as the foundation of public school education.

We're halfway there. Unfortunately, the half that he could contribute, is not allowed. What IS found, are several required articles, or chapters of a book, all one-sided, and the "critical thinking" analyses only the one perspective to only determine the degree of correctness.

I've had high school language arts teachers show me what is required in their curriculum/sylabus. It is so discouraging to see the obvious void of alternative perspectives.

You know as well as I, the educational goal is indoctrination.

We must teach young people their place in the world.

From the Sad But True Department:

As a woman, I've had shoved into my face quite a lot that the supplicant has no power. It's too easy for the ones in charge to ignore you.

These people need to get over themselves.

I don't know who they think they're kidding, but the only way they -- or anyone -- will get what they want is to "make yourself so good they can't ignore you". Grizzling about entitlements and apologies and all that gets you exactly nowhere. The ones with the toys will shine you on, because they can. Or they believe they can, which amounts to the same thing.

          Stop begging.

Success is measured by your discipline and inner peace. – Mike Ditka

I didn't know he was still around. I read his book 'the content of our character' 30 years ago. (off to google to see the publication date...)
