Boeing said on Thursday it will move its headquarters from Chicago to Arlington, Virginia, as the crisis-plagued U.S. planemaker works to repair relationships with customers, federal regulators and lawmakers.

The move to Arlington - across the Potomac River from the U.S. capital - will also include plans by Boeing to develop a research and technology hub in the area.

“The region makes strategic sense for our global headquarters given its proximity to our customers and stakeholders, and its access to world-class engineering and technical talent,” Boeing President and Chief Executive Officer Dave Calhoun said.

Reuters reported last October, citing sources close to the company, that cost cuts and a more hands-on corporate culture had raised questions about Boeing’s future in Chicago, and in turn the broad direction Boeing intends to take as it tries to regain its stride.

Boeing said it will maintain a significant presence at its Chicago location and surrounding region.

Ken Griffin, the richest man in Illinois, is moving his Chicago-based hedge fund to Miami.

In a note to employees at Citadel, Griffin announced he already has moved his family to Miami, and will soon be bringing the company with him, though some Citadel employees will remain in Chicago.

"Chicago will continue to be important to the future of Citadel, as many of our colleagues have deep ties to Illinois. Over the past year, however, many of our Chicago teams have asked to relocate to Miami, New York and our other offices around the world," Griffin wrote. "We recognize that the choice of where to call home involves personal, family, school and other considerations, and we will provide comprehensive support to meet the needs of our teams."

A spokesperson points to Florida's business-friendly climate and Chicago's violence as reasons for the move, saying, "talent wants to live in cities where they feel safe."

According to a company spokesman, Citadel has about 1,000 employees in Chicago. It's unclear how many of them will be relocating.

I'm sure the leadership in Springfield and my senators in DC are shocked and disappointed, again.

Louisiana is a poor state, with decades of Democrat rule. It became red after Katrina and has stayed that way, pretty much, although we do have a Blue Dog for governor.

EDIT: To answer my own question,

Miami has a higher per capital gun violence than Chicago and

Florida as a state has a higher per capita gun violence than Illinois.
