How many white supremacist people are actually out there? I think they are more media creation, a useful tool propagated by politics.

Count on those who believe white supremacists lurk around every corner, to be the giggly ones when some conservative believes anything that could be tortuously construed as a conspiracy theory.
It literally used to be neo-nazis several years ago. Same narrative Russia uses to control its righteous populace. If you'll recall, the "fine people" hoax about something Trump said, referred to neo-nazis. White progressives buy this stuff. I suspect psychologically, they are prone to being overwhelmed by fear, and need to sleep with a night light. You will know these people by their over-reliance on slippery slope narratives in all things political.
