Rolling Coal

@Jolly said in Rolling Coal:
China and India...
My first response was going to be some snarky statement about how glad I was that we were back in the Paris Climate Accord with India and China again, but I was distracted by this paragraph:
Adding the 700 million tons of new coal that China and India will be mining to the amount they are now producing leads to some staggering numbers. By the end of next year, China will be producing about 4.4 billion tons of coal per year and India will be mining about 1.2 billion tons. Add those together and you get 5.6 billion tons of coal, which is more than 9 times the amount of coal that will be mined in the U.S. this year.
China and India have a combined population of 3 Billion people, around 9 times the total population of the US. They also have much more robust manufacturing energy needs than the US. Per capita, our coal consumption has been higher than both of those nations.

Wonder about two things:
- The quality of the coal.
- How well they scrub as they burn.
Locally, we have a lignite burning power plant. Lignite is pretty crappy coal, but North Louisiana has a good bit.
I've fished by that plant many times. You'd never know they were burning coal.
