Ricky Gervais Defends Trans Jokes In Netflix Special
-
Ricky Gervais is defending his trans jokes in his Netflix comedy special SuperNature that have sparked outrage on social media. “My target wasn’t trans folk, but trans activist ideology,” he told The Spectator in an interview. “I’ve always confronted dogma that oppresses people and limits freedom of expression.” He added, “It was probably the most current, most talked about, taboo subject of the last couple of years. I deal in taboo subjects and have to confront the elephant in the room.”

It's a nice story that Mr Gervais goes after sacred cows, and to a large extent that is true, but he and every other comedian who wants a career will still avoid any sacred cow having to do with race. Pure self preservation. One imagines a comedian can survive the mob retaliation against the trans narrative. Not so much the race narrative.

When I was around 14-16 years old, I was at a friend's house, and he had an LP of Lenny Bruce's comedy.
There was an amazing routine about prison and death row. Yeah, he went there - a lot.

I guess a Black comedian's chance of survival is not hopeless...
