Even Trump Is ‘Completely Weirded Out By’ Madison Cawthorn’s Antics
Trump has grown increasingly annoyed and disappointed with his MAGA apprentice. The twice-impeached former president has described some of what he’s heard about Cawthorn’s latest woes — and the online sexual imagery associated with it — as “gross,” according to two sources who’ve heard Trump speak about the matter in the past couple weeks.
Trump, for one, is not impressed. “Trump is not at the point of pulling his endorsement, but the [former] president says he wants to sit back and see what happens,” one of the sources recalls. “But he’s been disappointed with Madison, and thinks he has problems handling his [public relations],” specifically with the video and photos that have surfaced.
The other source said that lately Trump had voiced bewilderment and disgusted confusion about what he’d been told of the flood of leaks and footage, asking at one point in recent days if one of the allegations was that Cawthorn was “fucking his cousin?” (That is not one of the allegations. Instead, Cawthorn’s cousin, who is also on his staff, appears in some of the videos where sex is discussed.)
Former “President Trump is completely weirded out by the allegations,” a third source, a Trump ally, bluntly relayed to Rolling Stone.
“President Trump is my friend and the leader of our party. I don’t trust anonymous sources and nameless accusations,” Cawthorn tells Rolling Stone in a statement. “The fake news attacks MAGA warriors every single day. Their lies won’t distract me from fighting for an America First agenda in Congress.”

Cawthorn Faces Investigation by House Ethics Panel
The House Ethics Committee announced Monday that it was forming a subcommittee to investigate two allegations against the freshman North Carolina Republican. The allegations were raised in a complaint filed by a group called Fire Madison Cawthorn that backed his election opponents. Mr. Cawthorn lost his GOP primary last week.
Mr. Cawthorn has denied any wrongdoing. “We welcome the opportunity to prove that Congressman Cawthorn committed no wrongdoing and that he was falsely accused by partisan adversaries for political gain,” said Blake Harp, Mr. Cawthorn’s chief of staff.
Ethics investigations into lawmakers are conducted by fellow House lawmakers. They are typically slow-moving and rarely result in punishment. Mr. Cawthorn is set to leave Congress at the end of this term, and his departure would end the investigation.
The ethics panel said it would investigate whether Mr. Cawthorn improperly promoted a cryptocurrency called “Let’s Go Brandon” that the congressman also said he owned. The name of the coin is borrowed from a vulgar slogan about President Biden.
After Mr. Cawthorn appeared to back the coin on Instagram, the value of the currency soared and then tanked, according to a news report by the Washington Examiner. An investor filed a lawsuit seeking class-action status last month accusing the coin investors of orchestrating a pump-and-dump scheme.
Mr. Cawthorn also faces allegations that he provided free housing and gifts to a staffer beyond the congressional gift limits. In late April, the Daily Mail published photos and video of Mr. Cawthorn with his male scheduler’s hand on Mr. Cawthorn’s crotch. Mr. Cawthorn said he was joking around with the aide, who is also a relative. Mr. Cawthorn uses a wheelchair and has said the aide assists him in managing his disability.
