Twitter is trying to thwart billionaire Elon Musk’s takeover attempt with a “poison pill” — a financial device that companies have been wielding against unwelcome suitors for decades.
WHAT ARE POISON PILLS SUPPOSED TO DO?
The ingredients of each poison pill vary, but they’re all designed to give corporate boards an option to flood the market with so much newly created stock that a takeover becomes prohibitively expensive. The strategy was popularized back in the 1980s when publicly held companies were being stalked by corporate raiders such as Carl Icahn — now more frequently described as “activist investors.”
Twitter didn’t disclose the details of its poison pill Friday, but said it would provide more information in a forthcoming filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, which the company delayed because public markets were closed Friday.
The San Francisco company’s plan will be triggered if a shareholder accumulates a stake of 15% or more. Musk, best known as CEO of electric car maker Tesla, currently holds a roughly 9% stake.
Yeah, but he had to know that was coming next. Does anybody here really think there aren't wheels within wheels?
Does anybody here think that there’s maybe more to this than him being a knight in shining armor regarding the sanctity of free speech?
This is only about free speech insofar as Twitter is not really a fan currently. But who actually thinks Musk is some kind of first amendment advocate aside from internet morons?

His goal was to make who rule the twitter world and those who use the twitter world to all agree that free speech is bad.
Why would he do that?
We can only hope that none of the talent on our news outlets give in to the temptation to speculate.

Maybe the great armchair philosopher Tucker Carlson has an opinion. He seems to have one on pretty much everything else.

Go get 'em, tiger.
Twitter has seriously underperformed, in part due to it banning or seriously curtailing some people who had millions of followers... Trump, Tucker, Bongino, etc.
That's like saying a backup quarterback sucks ass. Compared to the most popular social media platforms on the planet, Twitter's still in the top 10, and 1 in 7 Americans use it regularly. That ain't nothin'.
And banning Trump has nothing to do with its not being #1. Nothing at all. Scads of conservatives are on there and have no problem with the platform. It's simply not as entertaining to use as YouTube, not as personal as Facebook, and not as addictive as TikTok.

Put your head in a bucket of water and take a deep breath.
In just the three names I mentioned, you have millions of followers with tens of millions of hits on their tweets or the tweet thread...That ain't chicken feed.

It's a common fallacy among people who don't use Twitter to believe the platform is exactly like it's portrayed in outrage porn articles. The vast majority of Twitter doesn't care about any of that. Individuals, influencers, small companies, non-profits, corporations... they use the platform and couldn't care less that Donald Drumpf was banned.

That's all well and good.
Now add in all the activity from reading and responding to Trump and those other people. For example, look at CNN's ratings after Trump left office. Twitter is leaving meat on the bone.

Amazing how no other competitors have stepped up to pick off those meat Twitter left on the bone, eh?
To Jolly's point, they literally have. Instagram, YouTube and Facebook have four to ten times the user base that Twitter has. But for example, Twitter has about 100 million more users than America has citizens, so the Donald Trump thing is just a drop in the bucket. It really doesn't matter in the big scheme of things.

But I'm enjoying the schadenfreude.
