RIP Franz Mohr
-
For those that may not know, Franz was the chief piano technician for Steinway for a number of years and was a preferred technician for Gould, Rubinstein, and more. He wound up becoming Horowitz’s personal technician and traveled everywhere with him. The Horowitz concert in the Soviet Union was almost canceled because they weren’t going to allow Mohr (a very deeply religious man) into the country. Horowitz outright refused to go without him.
I had the good fortune to spend a few days as his driver 20 years ago. The man was absolutely full of amazing stories… he was a legend.
