Chicago has been known for having wonderful, innovative and creative architecture. It's the home of Mies van der Rohe, Frank Lloyd Wright, Louis Sullivan and Jenny.
There's a blog that posts pictures of some of the less-successful things in Chicago (though not all of them are in Chicago).

There is a suburb of Chicago that is filled with houses like that. They are ostentatious monstrosities, built to impress more than anything else.
