Same here. I didn't even know to visit colleges before choosing one. My parents never took me to look at any colleges, I just picked one that sounded good.

I remember visiting colleges and going with my mom and sister when she visited colleges. This was early and mid 80s

Boston College was 4 miles from my house, so I could walk there. My father went there, my grandfather went there. There was no need for any extra visit, an easy decision.

When I started there the majority were commuters, after 4 years the majority were residents. I think it is now 100% residents. No more living in your parents house and walking to school.
