I think Mr. Penn will be joined by millions of people who will ignore the oscars, with or without Mr. Zelensky
Maybe he should demand the climate change should stop too.
Sean Penn calls for Oscars boycott if Ukraine’s Zelensky isn’t given chance to speak
Sean Penn is calling on Hollywood to boycott the Academy Awards if Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is denied a chance to speak at the red-carpet event.
“I would encourage everyone involved to know, though it may be their moment, and I understand that, to celebrate their films, it is so much more their moment to shine and to protest and to boycott that Academy Awards,” the controversial actor said in an appearance on CNN Saturday afternoon.
Penn, 61, has won two Oscars and vowed to “smelt mine in public” if Zelensky is snubbed by the Academy.
The Ukrainian leader has been in talks with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to make a video appearance during Sunday’s broadcast of the Oscars ceremony. Penn met with Zelensky while in Ukraine in February, when he was filming a documentary about the nation’s tensions and now war with Russia.
Oscars ceremony co-host Amy Schumer floated the idea of having Zelensky speak at the event last week, People reported.

Apparently there is no downside to Ukraine support, in fact our morals indicate clearly that support is the only choice. But equally clearly we shouldn't support too much, and everybody knows exactly where that line is, so don't ask, because everybody already knows. Only a bad person would ask.

To be simpatico with cornered people defending their home against a nuclear power who will murder them, might obligate some small personal sacrifice. I'm not sure Hollywood has thought this one through. But let's face it, to not attend the Oscars will already be a bridge too far for most of them. This is popcorn worthy to see if Zelensky speaks there. I suppose it could turn into a nothing burger cheerleading speech followed by uproarious applause and no followup whatsoever. But that would be up to Zelensky and the degree to which he implored American pop culture to put their money where their mouths are.

I just watched a few minutes.
It looks like most of the private boxes are empty.
They can't even get their own people to show up.
Fortunately they seem to have enough variety in skin color this year, although to be honest I'm not sure you can have enough.

Well that’s worth watching. Will Smith just went up on stage and smacked Chris Rock over some joke he told about Smith’s wife.

I guess he felt he needed more street cred after his kiddy candy rap song Parents Just Don’t Understand. What a fucking joke to play tough guy at the Oscars over a nothing joke about his open marriage partner.
