America Was Wrong

Maybe we need to eat corn, instead of burning it.

Many environmentalists have been saying it — just eat the corn is more efficient than feeding the corn to some other animals and then eating those animals.

Wow. Whoosh...
But to your point, you do NOT want to be eating feed corn.

I also dont think that ethanol for fuel is a good idea.
Subsidies, plus the separate inferstructure required. Etc
(on a side note, I was surprised at how small a % of human eating corn is as part of the overall corn planted)

I've talked about this before...
We had a guy from the Left Coast with some venture capital, take over a small biodiesel plant. He held several patents for turning sewer sludge into biodiesel. The plant was to be a Beta site, trying to scale lab stuff up into an industrial process.
I was recently retired and somebody gave the company my name. I drove over and talked with him about running his industrial lab. Was offered a blah salary and stock. Called up my BIL, who is a damn good ChemE, and pitched it to him. BIL said it wasn't going to work, because the plant owner had too many variables in his biomass beyond his control.
But...If the guy had located the plant next to a major city sewage plant and he could get his sludge for free or maybe the sewer plant would pay him to take it, I think he could have broke even or made a profit, as long as oil was $65 (2015 dollars) a barrel or above.

I know some people who have been involved with Diamond Green Diesel, which uses animal fat.
I think their first plant was located next to a meat packing factory.
Right now, they make about 500,000 barrel per year, pretty small by refinery sizes, but it is a start.
