There's no face to this

Curious for folks that have a broader perspective and have seen tense times like this in history before.
For any "side" that's involved here (protesters, rioters, police, politicians, religious, movement leaders, etc.) - there's no face.
It's a mass of voices on social media - but there's no one able to break out of the din.
Maybe I'm just not looking.
Thoughts?

We'll see faces more clearly in hindsight.

The faces that stand out to date are the police officers who are visibly empathizing with the protesters. That, to my knowledge, has never happened.

That's a great point. The (Denver?) sheriff video has been shared around all over the damn place. In my opinion that's counter-evidence to Horace's theory about the crowd. I think a ton of people are relieved as hell to see some empathy from the other side.

If they didn't think there was empathy in the first place, they're ignorant idiots.

I think we have already established that.
But the empathy is so unanimous, I have to question who else is egging the protests on and why. The guy's been charged. They need to have something they want other than to protest and I'm not seeing any concrete actions demanded here. Just more venting.
