What was the first hit song to feature the Nashville slip-note style and who was the pianist?

Don Robertson wrote a song called "please help me I'm falling". Floyd Cramer played the piano on the finish cut, and copied the style from Robertson who played it first, on the demo.

Yep, song was sung by Hank Locklin. I didn't know the part about Robertson. IIRC, Chet Atkins also worked on the record.

The song Last Date didn't come out until later in the year.

Hank singing his hit. I'm not sure if that's Floyd on the piano, I'm guessing it is.

BTW...Something I found pretty amazing...I saw a video of Hank singing that song ten years or so before he died. He had to be in his mid-70's or maybe a little older.

              Same key.

If Don Robertson had had any range, he could have been "Mr. Piano" instead of Floyd. Unfortunately, "please help me im falling" was a hot screaming barn burner compared to the rest of his catalog, with most of it sounding like he was falling asleep.....

                  Larry, you remember Tommy Wells?

Tommy helped me when I bought my son his first set of drums...

I had to think a minute, but yes I remember him. Great drummer.
