Alternative explanation:
Higher density areas got hit first with each successive wave. In the fullness of time differences in average age, NPI and vaccination rates showed themselves.

As the democrat administration moved in, the vaccines developed during the Trump administration were being utilized - though more frequently among democrats. As was noted by other sources, many more democrats than republicans chose to be vaccinated - and individuals who choose to be vaccinated are many multiples more likely to survive an infection (i.e. allegedly 41 times more likely to survive than unvaccinated).

Hopefully we can do this for everything going forward. It's such a useful way to categorize a disaster like this.
