Sanctions: Now you've gone too far!

On Monday, World Taekwondo stripped Putin of his honorary black belt as a result of the violence in Ukraine.
The IOC EB has, based on the exceptional circumstances of the situation and considering the extremely grave violation of the Olympic Truce and other violations of the Olympic Charter by the Russian government in the past, taken the ad hoc decision to withdraw the Olympic Order from all persons who currently have an important function in the government of the Russian Federation or other government-related high-ranking position, including the following:
- Mr Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation (Gold, 2001)
- Mr Dmitry Chernyshenko, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation (Gold, 2014)
- Mr Dmitry Kozak, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office (Gold, 2014)
What next, revocation of his equestrian prizes (I'm sure they exist)?

I'm not sure whether these kinds of actions have a beneficial effect, apart from virtue signaling.
Of course.
They don't have any practical consequence. All they potentially achieve is to piss Putin off more. Is that a good thing? I'm not sure.
Good point, but it's still funny, which is why I started a "different" sanctions thread. Not serious at all, but it shows that people are pissed.

Also, I heard the first reports over here from Russian immigrant kids who were bullied at school and even some parents demanding actions against these poor kids.
The conductor Gergiev and the singer Anna Nebtrebko were "canceled" because they refused to speak out against Putin.
I'm OK with the economic boycott and everything, but let's not turn this into a "every Russian is evil" thing.

I don't know enough about Gergiev's relationship with Putin to have a valid opinion, however to "cancel" someone because he's not "opposed enough" strikes me as being kind of North Korean.

My friend's wife works in the Russian School of Mathematics, and they've had death threats and demands that they change their name and fire any Russian teachers. The fact that it's pretty much staffed by people who defected from the former USSR seems to have eluded these imbeciles.
His wife is half Ukrainian, as it happens.

And I am ¼ Russian....
But you know how I feel, right?

From Russia — without love.
Adult entertainers in Russia have been blocked from OnlyFans amid financial sanctions imposed on the country following its invasion of Ukraine.
Several kinky content creators spoke out on Sunday, saying they were unable to share new videos and access money earned via their OnlyFans accounts.
“In short term, I don’t have money to live … Many models [are] faced with this, nobody thought it could happen,” user Bunnie Mommy told Rolling Stone, alleging her account was frozen Saturday evening.
The X-rated model claimed she lost over $8,000 US amid the ban.
And there are some "interesting" and probably SFW pictures at the link.

Idiots.

I cannot agree with banning anything Russian, including its fake news machine, RT. The more we can put the spotlight on khuilo Putin’s lies the better.
Banning the works of Dostoevsky and Tolstoy ( a pacifist ) is not only stupid but it is playing into the lies and disinformation of the Russian state.

The International Cat Federation has banned Russian cats from competing in their shows in the latest response to the invasion of Ukraine.
The Fédération Internationale Féline (FIFe) confirmed on Tuesday that cats bred in Russia will not be allowed to compete in their cat shows until May 31 at the earliest following Vladimir Putin's invasion on Ukraine on February 24.
The FIFe executive board also confirmed that cat-owners who live in Russia are also banned from the organisation until further notice.
I've read about several people who have put deposits down on cats to be shipped from Russia. I think they're SOL.

Boris's father came from Russia. This is from Boris' breeder.
"Breeders are having trouble. The cats can’t fly out of Russia or Ukraine now. Some breeders are hiring couriers to get them into Turkey, then onto NY, then to their state, but it’s doubling the length of time for the trip & doubling the cost. One breeders costs went from $2000 to $4000, to bring 2 cats over & there’s a chance that it might not happen. It’s not good for the cats to be in a carrier for that many days. It will be very stressful on them. FIFe won’t let any cats from Russia be registered right now & it’s possible other cat clubs will follow suit. I’m glad I didn’t have a cat from Russia reserved. After seeing what the Russian breeders are saying about the conflict, I’ll never buy another one from Russia."
