One Ukrainian fighter pilot dubbed the "Ghost of Kyiv" has emerged as an unconfirmed heroic figure as Ukraine pushes back against invading Russian troops.

Unconfirmed reports have gone viral on Twitter, with one video getting five million views for claiming that the fighter pilot has taken out six Russian jets since President Vladimir Putin ordered a "special military operation" in the country early Thursday morning local time.

I was going to post about that. Seems to be a lot of discrepancies with the story and no confirmation, though.

Putin seems like he might be sensitive to propaganda. Wouldn't be the worst thing for the media (or social media) to play up stories of heroic Ukrainian resistance.

          Agreed.

Ukrainian soldier livestreamed from Snake Island during heroic stand against Russia

The 13 soldiers on the island were wiped out after telling a Russian warship to 'f---' itself.

The media does not take sides and will report objectively and factually. To imply that they would employ intentionally biased messaging in their coverage is an insult to the whole profession of journalism. How dare you sir.

I find that really, really hard to believe.

Is there a recent example of pacifying a citizenry without absolutely crushing them with a bombing / siege campaign?

Even with bombing - most places are pretty hard to hold.

David Petraeus appeared on some show talking about that. He said that it's pretty easy to hold, IF the citizenry is with you. And he said that, for the most part, the Iraqis were.

                          This is totes different.
