My doc was a firm believer in Vitamin D and zinc in his treatment protocol.

And I think the jury is still out on Ivermectin and a couple of other drugs. I think we need to go back and take a hard look at therapeutics.

I spoke to a nutritionist awhile back about Vit D—specifically the best way to increase levels in the body when you're my age, size, etc. I've been following that advice since I received it. Who knows if it helps but it certainly can't hurt.

        Please love yourself.

True white privilege- we can produce it in low-UV environments, but alas, most of us still don’t produce enough, especially in colder climes.

I supplemented even before covid and I measure my levels twice a year. Vitamin D is one of those vitamins where it is possible to have too much.

            Mayo clinic

The recommended daily amount of vitamin D is 400 international units (IU) for children up to age 12 months, 600 IU for people ages 1 to 70 years, and 800 IU for people over 70 years.

            One-A-Day 65+ has 1200 IU

So I get double, every day

We take 5,000 IU daily. We used to do 4,000 using 2, 2,000 mg pills. The I found the 5,000 per pill and decided to go with it.

We have been taking D, daily for years after our endocrinologist recommend we do so.

5000 IU is a lot. I was taking 4K and was getting close to toxic levels. I mean not that close but in the ballpark, close enough to drop to 2k. Do lab work when this is all over and check your vitD levels. Seriously

@jon-nyc We were 2,000 a day for years before COVID. When COVID hit we upped it to 4,000. We just started the 5,000 UI pills a week ago or so.

Ok. I was 2k since transplant. I upped it to 4K with covid. Seeing my level in Jan I lowered back to 2k again.

I’ve been on 5K every third day and my doctor instructed me to take it every day I have a lot of outside contact or if I have had a close contact.

Why do you guys deliberately take more than what's recommended? It's likely to hurt more than it helps. I understand that it becomes quite toxic at some level.

My doctor had me on 5K a day when my blood tests were coming back with a D deficiency a few years back. After my levels got back to normal he suggested 1K a day. When COVID started I immediately went to 5K a day but he told me that was too much over a long period and suggested the 5K every 2-3 day routine.

                                @lufins-dad I will start skipping a day.

I sent message to my Dr. through MyChart. I usually hear back in a day or so.

It was recommended to take 2,000 per day by an endocrinologist when he discovered a severe D deficiency in my middle daughter.

Then when COVID hit the recommendation went to 4k.

D Toxicity is pretty hard to achieve actually.

                                    https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/nutrition-and-healthy-eating/expert-answers/vitamin-d-toxicity/faq-20058108

                                    This makes me feel better...

Taking 60,000 international units (IU) a day of vitamin D for several months has been shown to cause toxicity.

What is vitamin D toxicity? Should I be worried about taking supplements?

Answer From Katherine Zeratsky, R.D., L.D.
Vitamin D toxicity, also called hypervitaminosis D, is a rare but potentially serious condition that occurs when you have excessive amounts of vitamin D in your body.

Vitamin D toxicity is usually caused by large doses of vitamin D supplements — not by diet or sun exposure. That's because your body regulates the amount of vitamin D produced by sun exposure, and even fortified foods don't contain large amounts of vitamin D.

The main consequence of vitamin D toxicity is a buildup of calcium in your blood (hypercalcemia), which can cause nausea and vomiting, weakness, and frequent urination. Vitamin D toxicity might progress to bone pain and kidney problems, such as the formation of calcium stones.

Treatment includes stopping vitamin D intake and restricting dietary calcium. Your doctor might also prescribe intravenous fluids and medications, such as corticosteroids or bisphosphonates.

Taking 60,000 international units (IU) a day of vitamin D for several months has been shown to cause toxicity. This level is many times higher than the U.S. Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) for most adults of 600 IU of vitamin D a day.

Doses higher than the RDA are sometimes used to treat medical problems such as vitamin D deficiency, but these are given only under the care of a doctor for a specified time frame. Blood levels should be monitored while someone is taking high doses of vitamin D.
