As long as this is a peaceful protest, it is not an occupation. It may be a PITA for the residents of the city, but it is part of the price of living in a free society.
Maybe if the PM would meet with them and find some common ground, they'd start the trucks up and leave.
Even the Conservative Premier of Ontario, Doug Ford, is calling it an occupation.
As to the PM meeting with these yobs, why should he? For that matter no elected Member of Parliament should parlay with these people. Those who have, all Conservatives, have only further discredited what remains of their hopelessly divided party. There is nothing to parlay, the time has come and gone for them to go home. Their issue is not with the federal government in the first place. It is with the ten provincial authorities separately. It is the provinces that decide and enforce vaccine mandates and restrictions.
Moreover, these flat earth yobs and their organizers are so ignorant, dense or just plain lazy to actually read the and understand the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms . Instead they confuse the Canadian Charter with the US Constitution. It would hilarious if we’re not so pathetic. Listening to them rant on about how their freedom is being taken away belies the fact they don’t know what freedom is in the first place. When told to their faces that they are free to protest and the perfect freedom not to be vaccinated and or be rounded up and be forcibly vaccinated, all they mutter is “that is beside the point”. Of course it is because they have no point. They are welcome to roll up and take their Nazi Swastikas, Gadsden flags, Confederate Battle flags and Stars and Stripes home now. Many of them should also remove the yellow Stars of David they have appropriated and apologize in public for trying to equate their petty grievances with the Nazi persecution and genocide of Jews. There’s also the desecration of our National War Memorial and Tomb of the Unknown Soldier - but don’t get me started on that one.
So why should the PM not parlay with this ignorant fringe occupying and holding Ottawa hostage? Same goddamned reason Trump didn’t parlay with BLM rioters.

How can a nation's own people being in the public realm be said to be an occupation?

Along with Doug Ford who is not all that sensible, the protest looks like an occupation to the majority of sensible people in Canada as well. I suspect he got it right and will give him the benefit of the doubt.

Thank you for demonstrating my point.

What a politician calls something can be far removed from reality. I really don't know enough about what is ACTUALLY going on. By "occupation," I would think the entry into government facilities, interfering with the normal function of government.
Is that happening?

I agree.
It is the provinces that decide and enforce vaccine mandates and restrictions.

That's interesting. It's the provinces that set policy (vaccination mandates, etc.). I was not aware

I've read many political talking heads, including Prime Minister
ZoolanderTrudeau, talking about hate and violence. Nothing I've seen in the MSM shows any of that. Are these people as violent as the BLM rioters? As I asked earlier, how many businesses have been burned down, how many stores have been looted. As far as "occupation" goes, how many rapes have occurred, and how many people have been shot in these protests?I'm not defending these people, simply because I'm ignorant of what they're trying to accomplish, but I think your equivalence of the two movements is a bit off-kilter.

Thanks for linking that.
Obstructing traffic is absolutely wrong. I said it with with Antifa and I'll agree that it's wrong here. Free travel by citizens should NEVER be impeded.
Here's what happened in my city about 18 months ago.
Link to video Link to videoThe Canadians might be as lawless, but they're certainly more polite.
(the 2nd video is very long, just scroll though it to any random spot)
I fail to see the equivalence.

Point taken. They are not violent, or at least up this point, not physically violent. Wanton hooliganism has not characterized the protest. Nevertheless, this mob is not exactly a few doofuses wanting to take selfies in front of the Canadian Parliament Peace Tower. On the other hand, the Ottawa Police and RCMP have deliberately not provoked them and have chosen instead to defuse potential incidents calmly and with minimal force.
It is time for these yobs to go home. They have made their voices heard. They have very certainly cowed a few Conservative Party provincial premiers into promising action to lift mandates and restrictions in the coming days and weeks. The Conservative toad running this province, already on waivers with his Party, is certainly intimidated by the protest and his macho-libertarian caucus.
Why the movement is targeting Trudeau and federal government is beyond me. The protesters have certainly done irreparable damage to the very Party that best represents their interests at the federal level in Parliament. That leads me to the conclusion that they are not at all interested in parlay or parliamentary democracy. Then to hell with them all, they really do deserve nothing from the rest of Canada.
