I've never actually had it (the "meat" that is).

Is it as horrible as I think?

Yes and no. It kind of depends on what you like. if you generally like potted meats, you'll probably think it's OK. It's kind of like pressed ground ham, although not smoky or quite as tasty.

@mik I enjoy a small can of hash heated up in a skillet for lunch.

Rich, flavorful, and filling. Perfect lunch.

        Would Spam qualify?

Enough salt to last through The Apocalypse.

For me, it's camp food. Spam sandwiches. Fried spam and eggs. Spamburgers.

Actually, I like canned hash. Pretty tasty. Spam is different. I'd suggest you try some. Not bad fried up on a sandwich.

We call it corned beef or bully beef here. I like it as well.

I’ll fry with hash brown potatoes for breakfast or mix with English hot mustard into a spread for lunch sandwiches. I should it too as spread with homemade horse radish.

              Elbows up!

Yep. That's how I've made it - with potatoes. I think some of it already had potatoes in it.

When I was a kid it was what you ate when you'd run out of food and the shops were all shut on Sunday.

It would probably go well with some delicious American cheese product.

                  I was only joking

It's quite popular in Hawaii. Here's some recipes.

George, we prefer the reduced sodium version. It still has plenty of salt in it.

I did not like it for many years, but hubby has changed my mind. I now enjoy it with eggs and toast for breakfast. Hubby likes it for lunch with some toasted bread.

Be sure to brown it in a skillet. That makes a nice crisp crust for both texture and flavor. Do that with diced Spam, and then add it to your scrambled eggs or omelet.
