I saw Don MacLean in concert back in 1998 or so at a performance in Whitewater Wisconsin.

It was just him, a piano player, bassist and drummer.

      Wonderful show.

What struck me is how the show progressed. He started out by walking out on stage, with his guitar, and he said, "Here's some Buddy Holly."

He sang about 3-4 Holly songs and then started doing some original stuff.

Never acknowledged that he was in front of an audience. He struck me as being cold, aloof and impersonal. But, after about 30 minutes, after the crowd warmed up, he became more and more personable. He was really, really, engaged with he audience, and he started telling anecodets about recording, touring etc.

He was particularly proud of the guitar that the Martin company designed and named after him. He is a really, really, good guitarist.

"People ask me, what does 'American Pie' mean. I tell them it means I never have to work again if I don't want to."

      Great show.

The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.

Of all things, I have an album of American standards done by him. He's a better singer than many think...

                For The Memories.

Some of the backing tracks are done by the Jordanaires.

@ivorythumper years ago, NPR had an interview with Dion.

It was great. He talked about the origin of many of his songs.
