A new project begins

I must be crazy.

We're going to redecorate our entire first floor and the exposed hallway upstairs. Not going to move any walls or replace the hardwood floor, but new kitchen cabinets, counter, appliances and lighting, new paint/paper all around, carpet where it is carpeted now, window treatments, refinishing and reupholstering some pieces, new interior doors and front door, remodeled powder room.

We met with our designer this morning and started looking at cabinets this afternoon.

For the kitchen we are thinking blue lower cabinets, white uppers, both hickory with grain showing. Probably just a flat front contemporary. Quartz countertops, new backsplash TBD. Sorry, I don't know how to resize pics here.

The palate will be taken from this rug. Below is a pic of the dining room where the rug is. We're probably going to change from focusing on greens to on blues, yellows and whites.

Lovely colors! Yes. Color is hip again. The beige craze has faded, which didn't take long.

Great idea to use color suggestions from the rug. That way you will know they work together.

This is a substantial project. How long do you expect it to take?

Fun times ahead! We did that a few years ago - started in a bathroom and metastasized throughout the house - and involved our moving out for 3 months.

BTW, I'd stay with greens. We are green in every room of the house with the exception of the living room.

Our house is cedar sided and it's a fairly dark green too. When we last redecorated we had I think 12 shades of green on the first floor.

We have an open enough floor plan that you can't just do a room. You have to do the whole floor. We're trying to move to a more transitional look, a mix of modern and traditional.
