Miss Kitty...

Sorry, Larry. It's always very sad to lose a loved pet. As others have said, 26 years is an amazing life-span.

She sounds like she was a perfect cat for you. I'm glad you were able to spend some time together last night - and glad her end was peaceful. Those "paw prints on your heart" are a gift we can cherish forever. Do you have a picture you can share?

I do...
Thanks everyone.
I got my cousin to help me dig the hole. My niece found a rock shaped like the state of Tennessee laying in the woods, and she put it on top of the grave so nothing could dig it up. Then she took another rock and while we were digging the hole she took a hammer and chipped at it until she liked the shape, and used it for a headstone. I figured when I asked my cousin to help dig a hole it would just be us, but the whole clan got involved and made it an event..
Afterwards I saddled up Matt Dillon and went for a ride through pasture. That's always nice and peaceful, and if you ride slow through the cattle and sing softly to them, they will follow you around. So I ended the day watching the sun set while riding another one of my animal friends, surrounded by a bunch of cattle. You can't watch bull calves playing and be sad at the same time.
I have lots of memories with Miss Kitty. She lived a good life.

Wow. Lots of hair!
Did you brush/groom her frequently?
That hair was a royal pain in the ass. There's an undercoat of very fine hair, which between that and the fact that she hated a brush and refused to let you brush her, meant that I had to take her to a groomer and have her hair cut about once a year. It would Matt up into a hard "shell" almost if you didnt.
