This is what pisses me off..

I know all the stories about how that fish is produced, but from a pure taste perspective, I don't find it so bad. Not a lot of specific taste, but a nice texture. Not my favorite white fish, but better than some others. Also, even the most nauseating stories about it are not as bad as how fish sticks are produced.
Our go-to white sea fish is Atlantic cod.

Cod is good, but getting more expensive.
Barracuda is a nice white meat, providing you get the ones small enough not to give you neurotoxins and kill you.

Over here, it's very expensive if you buy it fresh. But I think it's a kind of fish that isn't that much worse if you buy it frozen, which makes it significantly more affordable.

I like tilapia just fine, usually buy it in frozen filet form.
Thaw, add seasoning, bake in oven … fairly easy to prepare and fairly easy to get consistently good results.@axtremus said in This is what pisses me off..:

Me too. Never eat it. Russians at Uralmash Machine Works used tilapia in their industrial waste water treatment program. When we told them we used trout, their response was “we tried trout, but we found that they didn’t survive in our tertiary holding/discharge tanks, Tilapia on the other seem to do quite well…”
The tertiary waste water in question was a black as coffee. We had nothing further to say.
I wouldn’t even consider eating Tilapia. In the wild it thrives on hippo poo. Where there’s hippos there’s tilapia.

for us, go-to is either bream (called orata in italy) or sea bass.
we dont eat tilapia much either.
