The transcendent issue of this time — no matter the specific raw material of any given news cycle — is the belief that one half of the country suspects the other half is contemptuous of them, and responds with contempt in turn.

We have the freedom to choose our actions, but we do not get to choose our consequences.
Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run, there's still time to change the road you're on.

The first screw-up in that article is the premise that the Civil War was a one-issue war. Like most wars, it wasn't.

All one has to do to see that the left holds contempt for the right is spend a couple of minutes reading WTF. Now notice that they are a perfect reflection of the Left in general. As a result, over the years I have gone from "we need both sides so we can bounce ideas off each other" and "the love America the same as me, they just have different ideas about how to do things" to "these asshats don't give a rat's ass about America, and the only way to deal with them is to ridicule them and keep them away from government".

Personally, I find the Left to be made up of stupid posers, and in my opinion their ideology must not just die, it must be crushed.

So yeah... I know they hold me in contempt, and I wouldn't piss down their necks if their guts were on fire.

I think it's as simple as we dislike them for various reasons and they hate us, because we simply exist.
