On FB, a friend of mine posted something about "the old days" when we didn't have slow cookers, microwaves, toaster ovens, Instant Pots, etc.
I commented that I got Mrs. George a microwave oven for Christmas in 1980. It was a Panasonic, and had a turntable. I remember how outraged I was at the price, but, it's my bride and Christmas. I paid more than $500 for it.
It was a beast.
When we bought our 2nd house in 1984, it moved with us, and when we remodeled the kitchen, it was part of the remodel.

When we sold that house in 2013, it was still working.

Slow cookers aren’t exactly modern technology either. My mum had one in the 1970’s for sure. We had an African friend of the family who used one - he used to joke that he put missionaries in it.

I haven't either until now. Half the buttons on our 16-year-old one don't work. I could probably replace the keypad, but it's $199 for the part. Not worth it since we're going to refresh the kitchen anyway.
I want to move away from stainless steel. It's not stainless and it's a bitch to clean properly.

We've always gone for cheap and nasty with microwaves. I think we're on our third one.
Not to worry anybody, but I'm not sure I'd totally trust the really old ones to not leak radiation. Then again, you could probably say the same about the cheap and nasty ones.
