Nor is it the same thing as a "coup attempt", when the vandalism and trespassing occurred within the context of a mob mentality during a protest.
If the alleged "planning" of this "coup attempt" is ever laid bare, we will see just how silly that label is. Until then, I suppose we will watch tribalists giddily use that phrase in describing it.
My guess is that the recent commonplace mob looting incidents involve more organized planning of illegal activity than this "coup attempt" did. What's your guess?

It's neither a coup attempt nor a bunch of good people who took a silly joke a little too far. It did disrupt a vote count, so I'm on the side of throwing the book at them. No, that doesn't mean breaking the law to uber-punish those involved, either. Just max penalty.

It was certainly a big deal, not least because of the huge and enduring messaging win it provided the left, against the right. That well of public shame will not soon go dry, because the left won't let it.

Some of you missed half my post and think “but these guys were just idiots” is a refutation of my point.
And your imagination of those who planned this "coup attempt" is what? Something other than idiots? Certainly, any planning involved was useful to the left. It's useful idiots all the way down, even while it serves your tribe to call it an orchestrated coup.
