Over time, Apple will stop providing security updates for old Macs running old versions of operating system versions. Long story short, I found a good work-around here:
    https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/422332/how-do-i-update-my-root-certificates-on-an-older-version-of-mac-os-e-g-el-capi

I started running into this issue with some of my older Macs that are stuck with El Capitan (OS X 10.11) -- some websites (e.g., Wikipedia) just will not load anymore because Apple stopped providing security updates for El Capitan, and these sites require newer certificates than what's shipped in El Capitan's last official update. So I had to look for a way to get around this, and found an answer that works (linked above). I tested it on my 2012 MacBook Pro and now it has gotten a new lease on life.

Just figure some of you with antique Macs might be interested.

Mrs. George is running a 2011 MacBook Air. Her current OS is Big Sur (Mac OS 11.6.1) and has had no problems afaik.

However, she's at the end of the upgrade path. She won't be able to upgrade to Monterey (nor will I with my 2014 iMac).

The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.
