Apple's obsession with thinness
-
I've mentioned this before, so bear with me.
The 24" iMac, although a nice computer (with a screen that's too small for me) is obsessed with being thin. So much that the headphone jack (yeah, they still have that) had to positioned on the edge of the computer. Apparently, putting the jack on the back of the computer would have made it too thick.
Stupid, stupid, stupid. Who cares about "thin" in a desktop computer?
I just read a story that the coming iteration of the iPhone, the upcoming iPhone 14, will get rid of the "camera bump." One thing I've hated about may recent iPhones is the fact that the camera protrudes from the back of the camera, even with a case attached.
Stupid, stupid, stupid.
Just the elimination of the bump might make want to upgrade.

I don't mind smaller.
My iPhone 12 mini is a good size - large enough screen, and very functional.
But my gripe is with thinner at the expense of functionality, particularly in respect to desktops, and to a smaller degree, laptops. I get it with phones (sort of - I mean, is it a huge difference to have a phone that's 2mm thicker?), but with computers, c'mon, man!

I think that there is a point of too much thins in the iPhones also. For me, they are uncomfortable to grip when they are too thin. One of the things I look for in a phone case (in addition to looks and protection) is if they make the overall thickness comfortable.

Agreed. I want a work horse to get things done; design is secondary. I strongly prefer the Thinkpad philosophy to the Macbook philosophy, so to say. If Apple gets on my nerves too much, I'll buy an Ubuntu Thinkpad next time (I don't think I'll ever return to Windows in my lifetime).

They need to stop body shaming my Commodore Amiga…
