And it's nothing new. Just remember when "Sir" Paul McCartney appeared in the Obama White House, and said "It's nice to have a leader who knows where the library of the White House is." (Paraphrasing here).
He ignored or was ignorant of (I'll chose the latter) the facts that a) The First Lady was a librarian and b) The President had a reading contest with his deputy chief of staff (and the books were more than 3rd grade level).
I'm sorry for the "whataboutism" post, but what people are complaining about goes back to the earliest days of the nation. So, today's criticisms about the lack of civility ring kind of hollow.
Hey, if you want to bring up outspoken rocks stars, I'll see your Paul McCartney, and raise you the American equivalent - Ted Nugent. Obviously, Sir Paul lacks "Lord" Ted's ready wit and sophistication, but I believe he's been a little what Copper would refer to as "impolite" on occasion.

My point was that singling out much-loved musical icon Paul McCartney for being impolite is a bit much if you look at some of what followed.
Obviously, nobody in their right mind would think that the draft dodging musical buffoon was in any way comparable to a former Beatle.

I don't actually have a huge problem with people avoiding the draft. I believe that being forced by a government to fight and die in a war is an example of genuine tyranny, much greater than vaccinations or mask-wearing could ever be. Old men who fail in their job send young men to pay the price of their failure. I know, I'm a hippy.
What I do find rather vomit-inducing is for the dodger to then go on to wrap themselves in jingoism and faux-militaristic bullshit.

I've yet to talk to a single Marine who thinks a draft is a great idea.

It depends on the circumstances.
On September 16, 1940, the United States instituted the Selective Training and Service Act of 1940, which required all men between the ages of 21 and 45 to register for the draft. This was the first peacetime draft in United States' history. Those who were selected from the draft lottery were required to serve at least one year in the armed forces. Once the U.S. entered WWII, draft terms extended through the duration of the fighting. By the end of the war in 1945, 50 million men between eighteen and forty-five had registered for the draft and 10 million had been inducted in the military.
