Many people are buying their produce or meat from local farms, due to shortages at the grocery stores, but also because of the better quality.

Will this buying habit continue once the virus crisis is past?

Most people will want the convenience of grocery stores. You don't have to plan, and you know where shit is in the aisles. But some will stick to the good stuff, or keep with delivery.

We mostly buy our meat from a local butcher shop. We recently went to a local farm/slaughter/processing place that has a store front. The meat there is absolutely better than any we have had from either a grocery store or even the local butcher shop.

Costco meat quality is consistently top level. You may find better locally but the odds are in your favor at Costco. Of course the romance is not there to skew your judgement.

You can get better steak at Costco than at most local butcher shops, and cheaper.

              👍

I'm liking my Beefalo just fine, but Costco generally has incredible steaks. I will still give the edge to local for chicken and eggs. I am just getting ready to try some local pork on Sunday...

I am thinking about trying the produce service that @Aqua-Letifer told me about, though. What was it called?

I may be wrong, but I think you may find some of the biggest difference in taste, when you try fresh pork.

Speaking of, I've got a little problem right now...I need to figure out what rifle I can shoot to whack a hog. I'm thinking the wife's AR-15....I've got a woods hog rooting up the back of the pasture. If it's a sow, I'll skin it and cut it up. If it's a boar, I'll drag it off and let Mr. Buzzard have it.

See, that's funny, because I have always thought of Costco steaks are rather tasteless for beef, and lower quality than I can buy elsewhere for similar amounts. Their prime briskets are great and ribeye caps are wonderful but pricey.

Their lamb, however, is pretty good. I have a rack defrosting now to go on the smoker tonight.

Their pork is OK, but only the cryovac stuff is high quality. Grocery store pork is equally tasteless and underfatted. The stuff I get from local farms is delicious.

In answer to the original post, I hope some of it at least will stay with them. Cheap isn't necessarily good.
