A gaspasser's addiction to fentanyl

Long read, but you can skim it get a gist of how destructive this is. The rationalizations, machinations, denial, and lies that people endure when hooked on this stuff.

Stop me if I've told this story...
At a conference, the lecturer was talking about addiction to opioids and how physicians deny they are addicted.
She told the story about one guy, who was feeling a bit shaky during a case and needed a fix. He reached for the syringe, and under the drapes he injected himself.
Problem was that he injected the wrong drug. Instead of fentanyl, he injected pancuronium (basically like curare). He fell to the floor, realign his error and whispered the name of the antidote.
When confronted about his addiction, he said, "I don't have a problem. I injected pancuronium. Nobody abuses pancuronium."

That's why we all need to turn libertarian and give drugs free reign...

Scary stuff.

We had a guy who got addicted to sufentanil. He knew he was addicted after the first dose.
Once he started using, it was about 3 months before he became non-functional. Went to rehab, did a residency in family practice (strictly office-based) and never set foot in a hospital again.
Last I heard, he's doing well.

I've always been afraid of the heavily addictive stuff because I saw how quickly and totally nicotine got me hooked.
I might have told the story about the time I smoked crack by accident (thought it was weed - long story). It was scary as hell, I just instantly wanted more.
Having said that, I did about 40-50 days of oxy after transplant and stopped easily with 20 days left in the bottle.

We’ve got plenty of time here, sounds like a good one.
Was aqua’s sister involved?

Yep. That's cocaine. All it really does is make you crave more. Now. Evil stuff.
I have always been able to pick up and put down opiates, even after like you, 40-60 days. No problems. I never felt that drive to take more or any real withdrawl symptoms. Some I know were not so fortunate. I'm not sure what makes the difference

I am glad I dont have an addictive personality. At least I dont think I do. But then again, I have not tried the things that some one the people on this forum board (no names given 555) have done!!!
