    https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/oct/18/sharp-eyed-diver-finds-crusaders-ancient-sword-israel

"Guardian: Sharp-eyed diver finds crusader’s ancient sword on Israeli seabed

"Metre-long relic, encrusted with marine organisms, is believed to be about 900 years old

    86295346-5b20-45bb-aa8e-7a50ca584446-image.png

"A sword believed to have belonged to a crusader who sailed to the Holy Land almost a millennium ago has been recovered from the Mediterranean seabed thanks to an eagle-eyed amateur diver, the Israel Antiquities Authority has said.

"Though encrusted with marine organisms, the metre-long blade, hilt and handle were distinctive enough to notice after undercurrents apparently shifted sands that had concealed it."

For those wondering how this sword ended up at the bottom of the ocean, I am pleased to bring you the story, authenticated by -- oh, somebody. People.

It turns out this one Crusader chickened out of the coming battle, threw his sword into the sea and reported to his commander: "Bon dia, mon capitaine, I report with regret that I have misplaced my sword and am unable to take part in the saglant fracas (bloody fracas) which faces us. Ima catch the next boat back home and find another sword, at which time I shall return and rejoin my fellows in the holy crusade to annihiliate the infidel for God and England, vraiment. KTHXBAI!" And away he went.

No further messages from this individual have survived.

    And that's the truth. 😑

      Surely you meant sanglant fracas.

      It's pedantry Tuesday.

Edit to add: Cool story, though.

As opposed to Pedantry Monday, Pedantry Wednesday, Pedantry Thursday, Pedantry Friday, Pedantry Saturday, and Pedantry Sunday? 🙂

I don't believe that the 'pedantry' in 'pedantry Wednesday' should be capitalized.

          I was only joking

If this was an action movie, that sword would be haunted.

Interesting story. Am thankful though the sword was found in the Mediterranean and not anywhere near Oak Island, Nova Scotia.

              Elbows up!
