What actions can Joe actually take to fix the supply chain issue?
Didn't a lot of companies pull back their supply chain from China leading up to COVID? (Not necessarily a bad thing for the long run) Then they pulled back even more expecting a recession that never fully materialized?
I'm not sure what any President or elected official could do to prevent the cumulative effects of the decisions of private businesses.
Yes - they set policy that influences this, but those mechanism are slow to have effects.

Perception is reality. Doesn't matter what the facts and causes might be, when people can't get stuff bought for Christmas, or even for their pantries, there's only one person they can point to.

The real effects of government policy on the economy probably take years or decades to materialize.
Other than pumping money in or out of the system - not much a government can do in the very short run.
Plus it's just an over-inflated understanding of what the American Presidency is for. I think the people who created the constitution would balk at that.

Yep. Biden's threats t the logistics industry will fall on deaf ears. He knows he can't nationalize anything and believe me - if the trucking companies could move the goods they would. So both Biden and DeSantis are grandstanding.

Remember the massive rollout of the PCR testing under the last administration? What did Trump have to do with it? He put the retailers and the producers in the same room… Pretty simple. Has Biden put the shippers, port authorities, manufacturers, unions, and economists together in the same room yet? Seems like something that should have happened 6 months ago…

How has that worked? From a newsletter I have read, the US states that ended federal unemployment earliest actually have had the slowest "return to jobs" vs. states that had the federal unemployment benefits go longer.
(I will add that i disagree with the added federal unemployment benefits, but it appears that it has not really been a large factor as to when people return to work or not)

But it does not change my initial comment that states that ended federal unemployment are doing better than those that did not.
They are not. There does not seem to be any relation between unemployment and stopping/extension of federal unemployment.
(Even saying that, i do not think it was a good idea to extend those benefits)
