Nature synthesizes starch from carbon dioxide and water, sure. Corn plants do that, for example. Now a team of scientists from China claim they have found a way to synthesize starch in a way that is even more efficient than corn plants. They claim 8.5x higher efficiency compared to corn, and that their process will use a lot less space compared to farming corn.
Not doing it with plants means less demand on land and water and less pesticides, lots of upside from this perspective.

If the Chinese told me the sun rose in the east, I'd walk to the window to confirm it.

Of course not.

Hence the link to the Science magazine, a peer-reviewed academic journal of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. I would not have posted this had I not seen that‘s peer-reviewed by an internationally respected academic journal.
When I showed some peer reviewed evidence proving that man made climate change was a joke, I was told that being peer reviewed was worthless and didn't mean anything.nn

There is some interesting things going on in crop science. Not only stuff like posted above, but just imporvements in seed technology, etc.
When I was in the States recently, I was talking with a farmer from NW IL. He said that even though they were in drought conditions for most of the growing seasons, the yields on his corn and soybeans was going to be "okay". Not great, but he was quite happy considering the weather all season.
