We're not even allowed to keep di-ethyl ether on the premises any more. Back in the day, some of my favourite Friday afternoons were spent doing ignition testing with that stuff.

We occasionally use it as it has such a low auto-ignition temperature of 160C, the lowest apart from carbon disulfide (102 C) , which I've also used, and which is a lot more scary.
