80% or more of the UK is vaxxed. Why are they getting their arse kicked?
-
One thing that rarely gets mentioned in articles like this is that herd immunity was supposed to be acheived at 70-80% when the virus was less transmissible. Delta changes that equation to 90%+ and that is for the entire population not just those over 12 or over 16 or those that only had one shot.
It continues to be true that an unvaxxed person is a sitting duck and a vaxxed person doesn’t have a lot to worry about.
Occam’s Razor.

Not to quibble, but 66% of the population is fully vaccinated, about 70% of the population has received 1 dose or more.
This doesn't really answer the question. The current infection rate in the UK is about the same as in the US.

I think the confusion come from the article stating 81.3% of the adult population is vaccinated… Kids under 12 count, too!

What I don't fully understand is why the UK seems to be in the process of relaxing all the protections. Our UK office went back in (voluntarily) this week, after working from home since March 2020. My brother said everything was getting less strict, right as all the cases are going up.
