      I blame the matriarchy.

And that's not as flip a comment as it seems.

You've been reading Cowen again I see. Or maybe just TNCR. I've been talking about the feminization of American culture here forever.

They needn't be deported, nor defenestrated.

        Education is extremely important.

Not a bad thing if they instead go into vocational schools or apprenticeship programs. But there is no evidence that shows this is happening. :man-shrugging:

My wife and I are moving, so we're looking at school district information. I've seen the graduation stats locally, statewide and nationally, looking at rural and urban areas. (I got curious.) There's a bit of a trend starting. And I'm sure if I were to take the time to find what I'm talking about to share here and have an honest discussion, there's no way you'd ever accept the premise. I'm seeing more and more what jolly and larry are on about. There's no point.

I think you would be very good as a homeschooler or in a combine of some sort. Alternatively, look at religious based schools. $450/month for Catholic elementary down here.

There's a lot of stuff it's taken me a long time to get into, and a lot of mistakes I made in my first five or so years of working that I didn't have to make. But I had no role models, for lack of a better term. I had no one I knew who made other options real for me, that it was something I could actually do. (For example, I gave myself permission to get into bikes and build my own because my cousin worked in a shop and made it real for me. But no one in my family or friend group played music, so that was for other people, not for me. So, I didn't start learning guitar until I was 30. Ridiculous.)

Kids need others around them to make opportunities real for them. They need to be encouraged. The problem now is, if you're a black kid wanting to join corporate America or a girl who wants to code, you have a world full of people encouraging you. But if you're a white male who wants to be a CEO someday, well, for a good half the country, you're quite simply an asshole who must be stopped. And if you're a girl who wants to be a schoolteacher, well, it's because you've been brainwashed by the patriarchy to think so lowly of yourself.

White male high school graduation numbers are starting to get shaky in some areas of the country, and I think it's because no one really gives a shit what they do, it's all about supporting minorities. Worse still, we've gone all in on STEM, but some kids just aren't wired to love a life in those fields. So what encouragement do they have?

Our social encouragement is so lopsided that it's starting to come out in education statistics. At least that's how I see it. So our plan with our daughter is to provide her with many experiences, learn that it's okay to have whatever interests she wants, and learn how to be very pragmatic when it comes time to learn how those interests could translate into an income. I see our education system utterly failing in this for many kinds of kids. Just my $0.02.

            Please love yourself.

Yeah, we're looking at a few areas right now where the public schools seem, I dunno, normal if you want to put it that way. No agendas. (FWIW they're very highly rated and are located in very red populations who are doing fine economically.)

Barring that, we are looking into alternative models.

              Please love yourself.

                @aqua-letifer Love it.

My parents were immigrants, and worked labor jobs. They didn't know much about western education... couldn't really help me with homework or anything.

But the one thing they did do for me was set expectations high. That's it. And that was enough.

Like you, there are lots of things I wish I was exposed to earlier - but it's ok, the fundamental thing was in place for me.

We're missing the most basic things while trying to combat bullshit bogeymen.

Also - I feel like it's super unfair, but I'm empowered to call out bullshit explicitly as I see it because I'm brown.

I don't have the specter of white supremacy weighing me down.

And that is utter bullshit and infuriates me.

You and Mcwhorter and Loury and zero percent of progressive white females agree.

Since progressive white females and feminized / opportunistic progressive men run the culture, here we are.

Our best cultural hope is for the idea to catch on that the racism narrative is itself racist and abusive to everybody and especially black children. That message can’t be carried by white folk though. So we need more Mcwhorter and Loury. I would say more Xenon, but c’mon you’re Asian.
