When active employee from our company dies, they often put up a notice on our intranet.

The number of younger and middle-aged folk posted about recently seems to have increased noticeably in the last couple of years. This morning there was a photo of a strikingly pretty woman from our Swiss office - she can't have been older than 30, maybe only 25. Left behind both parents and a brother.

I don't know the full story or anything, and I didn't know her at all, and obviously they want privacy. It's just heartbreaking to see.

    I was only joking

      Sad, indeed.

Are you the only one who has noticed this?

      Any thoughts on why?

Not sure - Covid may have had some impact, possibly also suicide rates? It's also possible the company policy has unofficially changed, and they're doing more on-line when it happens as pretty much the entire company is working from home, so the in-person get-togethers aren't happening.

          Suicide is definitely up...

There was a nice receptionist where I last worked. She was a huge woman who lived for work and for her nieces and nephews. There was a layoff in her office as a result of clients moving to a different company - and she was one of those let go. She died a month later. Nothing was said of the why, but I assumed it was suicide.

Not to harp on this, but there was yet another company announcement this morning. 4 family members dead in apparent murder/suicide.

What the hell is going on? 😞

Everyday stress is bad at anytime. This old life is full of strife and sorrow. Now, add in the severe lockdowns of the pandemic, coupled with the fact that many people of today have no religion in their lives, mix in the culture of wokism and you've brewed a perfect storm of despair.

Suicide rates are surprisingly low, IMO.
