I would love to go to a place and have a real 18th century meal… The actual meals, recipes, and ingredients from the time cooked on the actual tools of the time. I think it would be huge in someplace like Williamsburg…

Saw the video a few days ago. Townsend is very popular with rural folks, homesteading and history buffs.

I love that guy’s videos. I make baking powder biscuits all the time in the winter, when I make soups and stews in the instant-pot.

There's a few cafe's in England that still have those. Not out of any thought of historical importance, they just don't like wasting unused food.

There are “period” restaurants in Williamsburg… With very nice gas ranges, microwaves, instant chillers, and they “update recipes for 21st century tastes…”

Really depends how hardcore you define it. Eventually you run up to the problem of sanitation and the laws about being a food seller in the state—they have requirements that period people couldn't ensure. But yes, back in the day, some recipes used to be period. Not really anymore though.
If you want period-specific beverages, on the other hand, flag down a rennie and you'll have a one out of five chance of finding some kind of home brew in their flask. The mead my roommate and I made was period. (Again, we used glass containers, but the process was original.)

I think Townsend offers reprints of several of the cookbooks he uses.
