Well, looks like we dodged a bullet. I'm far enough NW, that after the storm changed tracks, about all I've got is some wind and some light showers.
Hurricanes are all unique. This storm has a really anemic west side, for whatever reason. That's why Baton Rouge didn't suffer as much, even though the storm came close.
Another plus is that this storm didnt have a huge storm surge for a Cat 4.
The minus is that it sure had wind. A good bit of rain, but really high winds. My understanding is that the main transmission lines going into New Orleans (6 of them) are down. That's going to take some work.
And crap...plywood prices were just coming down...

Speaking of dodging bullets...SIL in Baton Rouge lost power, but got it back a few minutes ago. The storm didn't center the city, as was expected.
In not-good news, my DIL's parents rode the storm out in their home, close to Cut-Off. They're ok, but they were told this morning they may be 45-60 days without power. Guess they'll live at their Mississippi deer camp for awhile. If it's still there.
In worse news, one of my DIL's best friends, her maid of honor, told my DIL this morning they are frantically searching for her brother. The last thing they heard from him before his cell died, was that he was headed to his roof, because the water was too deep in his house.

My DIL begged her parents to drive over to Austin and stay with them. As my son said, "You can't tell that stubborn coonass anything!" Anyway, my son will be taking leave this week and head down to his wife's parents. ..They had a big oak just miss their house and it's laying in their yard and the neighbors. Not to mention the neighborhood has trees down everywhere. So I guess it's Have Chainsaw-Will Travel.

Wow, it’s already affecting us in DC. We’re getting Ida related storms this afternoon and this evening withGlash Flood warnings, and the remnants of Ida herself are supposed to roll in tomorrow through Thursday.

I just came home from going to town. What I saw rolling in was so black and massive I can't even begin to imagine what this looked like in Louisiana. I've never seen anything like it.

I just came home from going to town. What I saw rolling in was so black and massive I can't even begin to imagine what this looked like in Louisiana. I've never seen anything like it.

The most intense glob of the storm, from Atlanta to Long Island, went directly over us last night at 4 AM. The lightning was everywhere and did. Not. Stop. Shit was getting struck all around us and the rain was so intense, older trees just gave up and fell. So much rain was hitting the roof it just slid right past the gutters and came down in ribbons.
And yeah, that was just a storm, not a hurricane.
I tried to go out on the front walk and get a picture but something in our neighborhood got struck and I decided against it.

Friend of mine in South Louisiana who has weathered several hurricanes, said the wind in this storm was a first for him - over 60mph winds at his house for over 6 hours.

Yeah, woke me up for a bit but the sound of the rain on the skylights knocked me right back out. It’s been strange since then. We’re supposed to be deluged with rain, but it’s been dry since 7AM…
