Declaring Victory over COVID-19

Describing Arkansas as having a thriving economy is pushing it a bit.
-
Did any of you actually read what the Governor’s said? I don’t think so. Go take a look.
-
They're playing it right, though. There's a growing contingent of idiots who can and never will be convinced that this is in any way a serious problem. And most of them will live and vote in the next election, so, might as well play to the base, even if that means unnecessary risks for everyone else.

It was all well and good—nothing they said is an explicit red flag for me—but because their testing is ass I really don't care what they think. Their testing is not at all up to scratch. They're making plans in the dark.

It’s such an election issue we will never ever have a rational discussion. Not possible.
What kind of defeatist attitude is this? Just because something has a electoral aspect does not mean we give up reason. If you do, then anyone can make anything an election issue and you would give up reason for every issue. This is a white flag that you should not wave.
There are still facts and there is still reason. For your own good and the good of your fellow man, do not give up on those, election or not.

The point is I don’t trust any of the commentary. It is all meted out through the lens of getting the chosen candidate elected. To say Trump has hacked the entire job of dealing with the Covid is simply a big fat lie as well as saying he has conquered it. I also believe Obama would have done no better a job and Biden has nothing to offer that Trump isn’t doing.

First of all, people need to understand there’s not going to be an R of 0 unless everybody stays in their homes in complete isolation for what? 3 months? 4? Now that means everyone. No power, no groceries, no internet, no medicine or medical assistance. So, is that something that anybody can live with? I doubt it. So there are going to be new cases and there are going to be outbreaks. The question will be how many and what is manageable and unacceptably acceptable. If you want air conditioning, you need a whole hell of a lot of people going out and exposing themselves to this virus. Is that acceptable?

. Most people are at a breaking point.I don't think most people are at breaking point at all. Some people are at breaking point. I'm fed up, but I'm nowhere near breaking point. The people I speak to on a daily basis are getting on with it, and not at breaking point.
Just because you see people yelling, doesn't mean they speak for the majority.
The main thing to remember about the silent majority is that they're not the gob-shites making all the noise, and furthermore the gob-shites do not represent them.

I’m not talking about the nutty protestors. They are a small group of outcasts. I’m talking about even my liberal friends who are done with staying at home and thinking about how to resume a somewhat normal life. Those with means are talking a different venue where they can hang with family and friends and do things we used to do like dine together and be in the great outdoors. I’m not even talking about the unemployment issue.

So, on what basis are you speaking on behalf of the majority of the country? What data tells you that the majority of the country is at breaking point?
I can only speak on behalf of people I know, and most of them are not at breaking point.
You can't just make a claim like this.

First of all In many warm climates people are already out and about. The Northeast has been on the colder side. A big warm up is comingthis week. Just watch what happens. Then watch Memorial Day weekend. Summer is coming.

So, we've moved from 'most people' to 'many people' and/or 'people'.
'Breaking point' is a very emotive term, and essentially meaningless in this context, particularly when the only data we've got to back it up is some people going out in the sunshine.

I go out twice a day, every day, walking the dog. Sometimes three times when it's warm enough to cycle. I socially distance.
I'm not at breaking point. Nowhere freaking near it.

Okay. I could be wrong but I’m watching what happens with climate change this week. Also where you live is not indictive of how others are behaving across the country. Charleston is almost back to normal and people in Florida are having a great time. Atlanta people are getting around. Friday and Saturday restaurants had reservations available at 330 and then again at 9. Curious about Dallas and southern CA.

If this is true, then my guess is there's a disaster brewing. Let's hope not.
