CNN reporter on the Taliban takeover in Afghanistan: “They’re just chanting ‘Death to America,’ but they seem friendly at the same time.”
Not making any excuses for that chant... but sometimes things get lost in translation a bit. There's a common "rally chant" in India that goes something like this:
<Cause, cause> Zindabad!
<the opposite of the cause> <the opposite of the cause> Murdabad!Zindabad means "long live", and Murdabad means "down with", or literally "death to".
But someone can be more emphasizing the Zindabad part (and be happy), or emphasizing the Murdabad part (and be angry). But the chant typically needs a cause and a foil.
Also - "Death to" doesn't necessarily mean "people should die" in this context. It could mean death to an idea... or down with an idea as well.
Anyways - that's as much rationalizing I can muster in favor of terrorists for one day.

Thanks for the explanation.
Nice to know that "death" doesn't really mean "dying," other than extinction of an idea. That make me feel a lot better.
Anyways - that's as much rationalizing I can muster in favor of terrorists for one day.
LOL.

Not worried about the terrorists. I was commenting on a female CNN reporter who is saying the Taliban appear friendly in English? Again are you fucking serious that a woman in the US today could get away with that comment on arguably the most brutal regime towards women in existence on the planet.
To further make my point, I suspect she would go nuts on Cuomo for his harassment of women. Compare and contrast Taliban to Cuomo regarding the treatment of women.

On CNN (Chris Cuomo Network)?
Surely you jest.
I know right? But in all fairness I did just. look at her other tweets and she expresses massive concern about treatment of women in Afghanistan… so I didn’t do my homework and I likely would not have commented at all

Chris Cuomo Network would be CCN.

You are correct.
My bad.
I tried (and already had (one cheap) Scotch in me.
I sit corrected.

That's only two. You need 3 Cs. Chris Cuomo Communist Program.
