Barenboim was pissed
-
(from Safari's translation)
It happened again. At the final applause, a bugler mistakenly stands up and bows. Daniel Barenboim makes this mistake white-hot. With a grand gesture, he indicates to the man to sit down. When the latter does not comply, the conductor makes his way through the orchestra and gives a lecture - in front of around 2000 spectators in the Great Festival Hall. Later he defiantly stays at the desk for what feels like an eternity, until the audience rises to a standing ovation. An unworthy spectacle

He was tough on page turners for sure. I also remember the CSO brought in a zither player from Austria to participate in performing Strauss Tales from the Vienna Woods. She screwed up pretty badly - nerves. At the conclusion of the concert Barenboim's look at her said it all - death could not have come more quickly.
