Just think, the average worker in the U.S. may have been working more hours than today, but how many of those workers were the sole breadwinner in their families?
The average worker in the U.S. is only working 300 hours less per year than 1950, but look at what our families have become...

No surprise about Germany.
Any culture that makes a consensus decision that we really don't need to be killing ourselves for "productivity" anymore, is a darn fine culture as far as I'm concerned.

Many more “exempt” workers are paid “salaries” rather than hourly wages. Then you have “gig workers” and freelancers paid by the task rather than by the hour. Estimating the actual “hours worked” using only payroll data in this day and age would be very inaccurate.

I agree. Most exempt workers I know work over 40.

Many more “exempt” workers are paid “salaries” rather than hourly wages. Then you have “gig workers” and freelancers paid by the task rather than by the hour. Estimating the actual “hours worked” using only payroll data in this day and age would be very inaccurate.
