Should I call a day off of work and do a century?

Right now, the US still won't let me in, but once traveling resumes, more options arise, but not in the short term.
What do you think a "virtual race" would look like?
A fully virtual option would be on Zwift - we could even live-stream it to TNCR
But admittedly it's not nearly as much fun as "real" cycling.

Definitely worth a go. The most I've done in the last couple of years is about 50, and I was knackered. I tend to start off too quickly, and then hit a wall after 2-3 hours.

In my opinion/experience, running distances are more linear whereas with bikes it's more exponential. If you can do 50, you can almost certainly do 100. When I did my first century, 50 was at the time my longest.
I think it helps to think in terms of time, not distance. Like, okay, I'm going to be out here for another 6 hours, so gotta plan accordingly.
We should all pick a day and try to do one and send live updates.

Post on here throughout the ride with distance updates would be my guess. That way we can use whatever platform we happen to haveβGoogle maps, Strava, FitBit, etc.

6+ hours for 100 miles? I thought we were talking about a bike ride, not walking!

I'm fairly confident I could do a 100, but I'm not at all sure I want to
I absolutely love going out on the bike, but pretty much every single time after 2.5 hours, I think 'OK, I'm good, I don't want to do this any more'.

Make sure you confiscate Klaus' inhaler and 'tonic water'.

I think so? I've been looking at routes, and if I did something like Rehobeth to Assateague and back (or on the C&O), it'd definitely be flat enough.
I've done a couple of incidental centuries on a singlespeed, back in the day. No plan for it or anything, I just happened to be on a bike that long. So I know it's possible, but I'm also old now. Would have to plan.

I just did 33 miles after a 3 week break. It got a little ugly - it's amazing how quickly that happens. I'm highly unready for a century.

I did a metric century today, in 3.5 hours. It was rather exhausting.

I did 32 yesterday. I was fine but it helped that I did it in 2 parts. I got a flat halfway through and the patches Would. Not. SEAL. I used 2 and all the glue that was in the kit. (Park Tool.) Air kept finding new ways out. I've never seen that shit before.
I had to walk it to an LBS and get a tube. I got 5. I'm done with patch kits.

Still, 100k is a good stretch.
