Food scams are everywhere — lies on the packaging, one single raisin in a cookie — but still: it hurts. And on r/FoodScam , they’ve collected a whole PILE of them for me to shake my fist over. Enjoy some of the best/worst!

    For example:

The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.

In a standard sized can of tuna labelled 5 oz, when you weigh the contents outside the can and drained, they weigh 3.5 oz.

Other than that, I just purely hate getting ripped off with my Wurzmischung.

Gosh that website. The ad technology where they replace the picture you've scrolled to with an ad. That is impressive. Sorry I had to bail on the attention though.

I’m not sure I understand the economics of the scam. The incremental cost of the product left out is minimal and the real outcome is the people don’t buy the product again.

@loki It may be that people don't notice they're being scammed and will continue to buy the product. It may also be that the producer needs a quick infusion of cash, and floats the scam knowing its life will be short, but the objective will be met.

I have no idea if producers do this. Just sayin.

But is the effect on an already-tight profit margin minimal?
