I just wanted to see what a long bass string sounded like.

Impressive. But why do most recordings not even feature bass notes? (Scarlatti etc.)

I’d like to hear it live. It doesn’t sound obviously bad on a phone, but that doesn’t mean much.

In my town, there’s a piano builder who made this:

I haven’t heard it life, but from what I read it’s main problem is That the dampers don’t work very well.

Re: the Alexander piano, have to listen to the Liszt Funerailles recording to hear the bass. To my ears, the “attack” in the bass is muddy but the tone is clear. Probably wouldn’t want to play fast moving bass passages on that piano but would most likely work great as long pedal points. :man-shrugging:

Judging from the recording, the piano sounded OK - I thought it had a slightly "synthesizer"-like quality to it in the middle and upper register - but I couldn't hear anything special about the bass. Actually, I'd say the bass sounds deeper on a standard Steinway concert grand. But maybe that is merely due to the recording or the equipment I use for playback.
