A little piano related history… Some of the best accounts of the riots came from William Steinway, who was present when the riots began. He and his brother Charles singlehanded held off a group of rioters at the factory for several hours, then paid off the leader of the mob.
Later, there brother Albert arrived as one of the commanders of the National Guard which was sent in to quell the riots. They housed the troops in the Steinway factory and William documented everything…
